I might be biased :)

Holy trance. It's good, other than some nitpicks, which I will share both the good and bad:

First part is good. I like the choices of synths. But it just feels a little bit too long duration-wise to me (idk why). Maybe shorten it a bit.

Mix is a bit too muddy from 1:02 to 1:56. If you're gonna rework it, fix some of the volumes/levelling. If you didn't cut any lows, do that. If you did, then maybe it's the volumes. But I like the usage of synths/instruments. Helps give off an uplifting trance vibe.

Also, 1:56 is a bit too empty for me, and it also feels a little too sudden. The feedback with most of it fading out could help it. Otherwise, first drop is perfect production wise. Feels almost like a club song of sorts.

Stylistic choice at 2:23 - Maybe some pads around there, along with small little piano bits here and there to add a bit more emotion.

2:53's transition part is sick and quite funny too. You seemed to have quite a bit of fun with this piece (despite the messiness)

Final part of the song is waaay too similar to the first part. Maybe play around with it a bit more. Mix some things up. Make it different somehow.

Overall, it's a nice song. Very messy, as you said, but I know you've improved a lot production-wise as of recent. Really repetitive, but such is the regular trance song. Also has its own unique charm to it which I can really appreciate. 8.2/10

whymsical responds:

yeah, i acknowledge the messiness
didnt really like how i made the final drop
be alright is a way better trance song, and tbh trance is just not really my genre

fair points all around, thanks for reviewing and listening!

radon review baby. Let's get it:

This is a very unique start in comparison to what you usually make I must say. I like the ambient approach taken. I just wish that it was a tad bit shorter, or maybe the extra synths could start kicking in at 00:30.

I like the ambiance used at 1:05. Like it symbolizes a new day of sorts. 1:36 - 1:50's thing sounds a bit corny at first. Maybe if I could hear a callback to that at the ending piece, then that would be nice.

02:24's part seems almost a bit empty. Like it needs pads in the background or something along those lines. 02:56's melody is groovy as hell though. Nice job on that. The ending section starting at 03:11 is also nice and smooth. The keys make for a nice tranquil juxtaposition to the rest of the track.. Maybe the riser at 3:25 could be a little bit louder. Not by a lot though.

All in all, solid song. Definitely different from what you normally make. Could use polishing though. I rate it a 8.8/10.

P.S.: Goofy Section™ where

NotLeLee responds:

Its ALL goofy section :^D
With the 2:24 part i tried adding lil risers to add collage, I tried adding a pad but it was just too laggy lmao
I think i did otherdo the length of the starting chords maybe but oh well
ty for review

Kick could be better, and snare could be a bit louder. But for 30 minutes, it's not bad at all. I've made worse in 2 hours :|

nice

AuroraEternum responds:

I still gotta fix the kick, and I’ll note it down for the snare!!

"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" ahh song

It's good though. I like the cheery vibe I'm getting. Only thing is that the piano can get very old after hearing it for such a long while.

Maybe try and mix it up a little bit at the drop section, or even adding delay and reverb to it in the beginning could help, and having it switch to only reverb in the interlude & drop sections.

Otherwise, I like it quite a bit. Good job mate

WE UP BABY

Goofy ahh song (I mean this in a good way)

Piano volume could be lowered in the beginning. End could use some more stuff to fill in some missing spaces. Otherwise, its a very good first song on bandlab.

8.7/10.

ANOTHER VERY LONG REVIEW. YEAH BABY WE BALL. Let's start:

Very nice song. I like the more video game/funky route that you went. I hate to say it though, but idk if I'd consider it jungle (Similar case to my "Run Wild" track, in the realm of this feels more NotLeLee than jungle). A lot more funky than what the jungle standard usually is. Not really complaining about it though. We love to see change around here.

Intro is perfect. Let's move on.

Basically no criticism for the first "drop". Only thing is for the horn at 0:47 until 1:11, listening to it alone for a while can really get old. Maybe adding a backing synth or some other instrument to mix it up? Call and response type shit, yk?

Speaking of change, maybe the bassline at 1:10 - 1:24 could've had a few extra notes to differentiate it from the main one in the first part.

Piano melody at 1:35 is very cool. Very funky as well. Personal preference (and I know it might not be a choice to do so, with Soundtrap's bs), but maybe layering the piano with a backing synth/some very subtle white noise could've done this part justice.

End part is almost perfect. Maybe lowering the calliope(?)'s volume a bit would help (You really gotta verify for me if I'm getting these instruments right LMAO). Last few seconds are good though.

Overall, very solid piece. One of my favorites from you probably. Other than the small little nitpicks (which are mostly opinionated nitpicks), this makes for a very solid piece. Would love to see this remade on a better DAW.

9/10. Easily.

NotLeLee responds:

JESUS WHERE DID THAT COME FROM LMAO
I WAS LITERALLY JUST LISTENING TO THIS PIECE WHAT

Also I have never used a calliope in my life (I only learnt about it when you mentioned it in Hall of Broken Glass lmao), and that doesn't exist on soundtrap lol
And soundtrap instruments have stupid unintuitive names so if I were to correct you it wouldn't help much lol
I'm not sure what instrument in this piece is a calliope but I think I hear what you think is too loud, I think.
But, the instrument you said was a calliope in your Hall of Broken Glass review is called "Broken Square" :0

From your reviews I'm getting that I should vary reused melodies more, or add more depth to them. I think I totally agree! I'll work on it.

Thanks for another VERY LONG REVIEW!!

yeehaw

Interesting beginning. The off-tune, well, everything gives it a pretty good ease into 00:37 onwards. Maybe there could've been a little more harmony in that section, but it sounds pretty good.

For some reason, I like the end section's messed up key a little bit less. Things start out all muddy, but they get a little more cleared up eventually.

Honestly, I think this whole song is a bunch of oddities, and in sections, it works out in its favor, and in others, against. I'd rate it an 8.1/10 (idk, experimental shit just usually isn't my thing, but this is good)

DoTeRqwe responds:

Thank you for your comment :)
im glad that you found it interesting, even tho i really couldnt finish this track and i kinda had no ideas how to make it better, so i just pushed it till its somewhat good
thank you for nice words :D

Why’d I only find this song now..

The first 30 seconds of the song is easily my favorite part. Seriously, the mix of all of the elements (the instrumentation, the choir of voices, THOSE STRINGS) makes me feel like I’m ascending or something, especially those chords. 3:08 to the end comes second to that. This is amazing dude.
